Values

In this text I will reflect on values.
The film I have chosen as my main focus is “Drone”, because I think that this theme also concerns Norway and the rest of the world.

The word 'value' has wide meaning, things that are important to us in life has a value. It can be everything from a car, house and money to religion, community, family and freedom. The difference are the physical values we need to survive and abstract values that makes us who we are. Things has different values from individual to individual.

In the film “Drone” values is an ethical dilemma. Many civilians and children are killed in the mission to kill people associated to Al-Qaida. On one hand, it is great that we are trying to take the terrorist, and that they take responsibility and try to defeat terrorism. On the other hand, it is not right to defeat terrorism with terrorism. As mentioned, many children and civilians are being killed.

The drone pilots are also exposed to an ethical dilemma. They are sitting in a country and bombing another country on the other side of the world, but is this right? The positive is that the pilots are not risking their own life.
The Negative is that the countries that are getting attack, can`t defend their selves. At the same time, the pilots don’t have the feeling of war, and do not think as much about the lives they are taking, and do not realize what they are doing.

I think that values are important, because it forms a good society.
It is essential to find the values you think is important in life, because it defines you as a person, and you can make up some meanings about the society and find your place in society. People who have many of the same values are making a good society.

To conclude, values are impotent in many settings in life, from religion to war and politics. Values forms a good society, and values are an ethical dilemma in many settings.
